Paradise Decks & Spas has been building custom decks, outdoor living spaces, and backyard retreats for San Antonio homeowners since 2006. Our range runs from a simple ground-level platform to a full luxury build with pergola, lighting, and hot tub. Either way, it is one company, one crew, and one fixed price.

San Antonio is not just another service area for us. Rather, it is our home.
Since opening in 2006, we have designed and built thousands of custom outdoor living projects while maintaining an A+ BBB rating. Because of that experience, our decks are built specifically for San Antonio homes, neighborhoods, and climate conditions.
Over nearly two decades, we have completed projects across Stone Oak, Alamo Heights, the North Side, South Side, Medical Center corridor, Westover Hills, and Terrell Hills. As a result, we understand how clay soil affects deck footings, how local weather wears on outdoor structures, and what HOA and architectural committees require.
Our services include custom deck design and construction, elevated and multi-level decks, composite and wood decking, repairs, railing installation, pergolas, patio covers, and complete outdoor living solutions. Whatever the project, we engineer for South Texas heat, humidity, and seasonal weather swings.
Maybe you are searching for the best deck builders in San Antonio. Perhaps you want a custom deck builder San Antonio homeowners trust, or a full-service outdoor living contractor. Either way, our team has the local expertise and craftsmanship to bring your vision to life.
Building a deck here comes with challenges that out-of-region contractors consistently underestimate. Below is what nearly two decades of local work has taught us.
San Antonio’s clay expands when wet and shrinks during dry periods. Consequently, it places constant stress on deck footings. That is why we install properly sized concrete piers in undisturbed soil, typically 18–24 inches deep, for long-term stability.
The city sees more than 220 sunny days a year, with temperatures often above 100°F from May through September. As a result, we use materials and fastening systems designed to resist UV damage, warping, and long-term heat exposure.
Severe storms with wind speeds above 60–70 mph are not uncommon here. Therefore, structural strength is built into every project.
Every deck includes proper lateral bracing, hurricane ties, and reinforced beam-to-post connections. In practice, that approach improves long-term durability and storm resistance alike.
Many San Antonio neighborhoods have active HOAs with detailed guidelines for materials, colors, railings, heights, and setbacks. Fortunately, we have worked with most of the area’s major HOAs. So we prepare the required drawings and documentation to simplify the approval process.
Paradise Decks & Spas provides complete outdoor living services under one roof. Whether you are building new or upgrading an existing space, one team manages the project from design through final inspection.
Every design starts with your backyard, lifestyle, and outdoor goals rather than a standard template. First, we evaluate your property, understand your needs, and create a detailed 3D rendering so you can preview the design before construction.
Then we customize every feature to fit your vision. That includes privacy screens, cable railing, sloped-yard stairs, above-ground pool decks, and covered porches. Ultimately, the result is a functional, personalized deck that complements both your home and the way you use it.
Our construction follows the 2021 International Residential Code as adopted by San Antonio. We engineer footings for local clay soil and use galvanized hardware with proper flashing for long-term protection.
Ground-level decks, elevated structures, multi-level layouts, steel-frame designs, attached or freestanding builds — in every case, the solution is tailored to your property and outdoor living needs.
We repair rotted boards, damaged joists, failing posts, loose railings, and storm damage. First, we inspect the issue and identify the underlying problem. Then we provide a clear written estimate and complete the repairs properly, so the deck lasts longer.
Professional cleaning first removes mildew, algae, UV discoloration, and surface buildup. Afterward, the surface is ready for staining or sealing.
For wood decks in San Antonio, we typically recommend professional cleaning every 12–18 months to maintain durability and appearance.
Staining also protects wood from UV damage, moisture, and everyday wear. To ensure lasting results, we prepare the surface carefully, apply professional-grade stain, and seal the wood.
With proper maintenance, most wood decks benefit from fresh staining every 2–3 years.
Waterproofing protects boards, joists, and the area beneath elevated decks from moisture intrusion. It also extends structural life and can create dry, usable space below.
In addition, we use commercial-grade sealants designed for Texas heat cycles. Consequently, protection holds up against weather exposure and moisture damage.
Routine maintenance also prevents minor issues from becoming costly repairs. During each visit, we inspect fasteners, structural components, and surface conditions to catch problems early.
We also clean the deck, reseal exposed areas, and provide a written condition report.
LED post cap lights, low-voltage stair lighting, under-rail strip lighting, and smart-controlled scene systems make your deck as usable at 9 PM as it is at noon. All of it is designed and installed by our in-house team, so there are no third-party electricians to coordinate.
We build custom pergolas, arbors, patio covers, aluminum covers, screen rooms, patio enclosures, and carports. Each is designed to complement your deck and suit San Antonio’s climate.
For complete backyard transformations, our most requested projects are covered outdoor living spaces with ceiling fans, lighting, and outdoor kitchen rough-ins.
We are also an authorized dealer for Cal Spas, Vita Spas, Dimension One Spas, L.A. Spas, and Swim Spas. Specifically, we sell, deliver, install, and coordinate the 240V electrical hookup.
We also engineer the deck structure to carry a filled spa’s 4,000–5,000+ lb load safely. Wet testing is available at our San Antonio showroom.
Concrete pool deck installation, pool deck repair, pool deck drain cleaning, and stamped concrete work. Together, these tie your deck and pool into one cohesive backyard design.
Every material we recommend has been proven in South Texas heat, humidity, and UV exposure, not just rated in a manufacturer’s lab. Here is how the options compare.
Material | Best For | Lifespan in San Antonio |
Trex Composite | Low maintenance, fade-resistant color | 25–30 years (25-yr warranty) |
TimberTech Composite/PVC | Premium look, heat-mitigation tech | 30+ years (30–50 yr warranty) |
PVC Decking | Pool decks, full waterproofing | 30+ years |
Pressure-Treated Pine | Budget builds, structural framing | 15–20 years with maintenance |
Western Red Cedar | Natural look, moisture resistance | 15–25 years with sealing |
Cable Railing | Modern aesthetic, unobstructed views | 30+ years |
Stamped Concrete | Pool decks, patios, hardscape | 25+ years |
Not sure which material suits your project? We walk you through each option with real samples, rather than brochure photos, during your free consultation.
First, we visit your property to discuss goals, timeline, and budget. We also take measurements and evaluate soil, grade, drainage, sun exposure, and any HOA or permit requirements. Most importantly, there is no sales pressure and no unnecessary upselling.
Next, you receive a 3D rendering, a detailed scope of work, and a fixed-price quote. In other words, the price you approve is the price you pay. There are no hourly charges and no unexpected change orders for design-related items.
Once you approve the design, we prepare the permit drawings and submit them to the City of San Antonio Development Services. We also handle fees and schedule every required inspection. Timing depends on project scope and current city workload, so we keep you updated as the application moves.
Once permits are approved, construction begins. A simple ground-level deck typically takes about a week. Meanwhile, a larger project with pergola, lighting, and hot tub pad may run three to four weeks. Throughout, we keep you updated on progress.
Finally, we meet the city inspector on site and complete the final inspection. Then we walk the finished project with you, explain care and maintenance, and hand over all warranty documentation.

San Antonio has plenty of deck contractors. However, experience, consistency, and workmanship are what set long-established companies apart. Here is what makes us different.
Custom decks typically run $45–$95 per square foot installed. A 300 sq ft pressure-treated pine deck averages $14,000–$18,000, for example. A 400 sq ft Trex composite deck with cable railing and lighting runs $32,000–$42,000.
A deck is an elevated structure in wood, composite, or PVC. A patio, by contrast, sits at ground level. Decks suit sloped yards, while patios suit flat terrain.
Usually yes. The city requires permits for attached decks, decks 30 inches or more above grade, and any spa-bearing deck. Either way, we handle drawings, submittal, and inspections.
For low maintenance, we most often recommend TimberTech Advanced PVC or Trex Transcend, since both resist heat and carry 25–50 year warranties. Among natural woods, cedar outperforms pine.
A simple ground-level deck takes 5–7 working days once construction starts. Multi-level builds take 3–4 weeks. Beforehand, permitting adds 1–3 weeks.
For wood decks here, we recommend cleaning every 12–18 months and staining every 2–3 years. Composite typically needs only annual cleaning. Still, every deck benefits from a yearly inspection.
Yes. We have worked with Stone Oak, Alamo Heights, The Dominion, and Cibolo Canyons, among others. We also prepare the drawings, specs, and color documentation committees require.
Yes, regardless of the original builder. First we inspect, then provide a written quote and recommendation. If repair costs outweigh long-term value, we say so.
Maybe you need a new custom deck or a full outdoor living transformation. Perhaps you want a hot tub installation, or a repair on an existing structure. Either way, we have handled it before, and we will handle yours with the same craft and process that has kept us A+ BBB rated since 2006.
